About

If you spend even five minutes with Doug Weaver, you’ll understand why his students call him more than a golf pro—he’s a guide, a mentor, and sometimes even a philosopher of the fairways. As the Director of Instruction at Palmetto Dunes on Hilton Head Island, Doug has made it his mission to help golfers of all levels rediscover what the game is really about: joy.

“Golf is a game of opposites,” Doug often says with a knowing smile. “The harder you try, the worse you do. When you swing slow, the ball goes fast.” It’s a lesson that applies as much to life as it does to golf—something Doug knows firsthand.

Earning his PGA Tour Card and playing in two U.S. Opens and being one of the “Four Aces” at the 1989 U.S. Open were career highlights, but Doug’s real success has comes from the countless people he’s helped find confidence and calm through the game. He remembers one Special Olympics student who barely made eye contact when they first met. By the end of their journey together, Doug was caddying for him at the national championship. “That kind of transformation,” he says, “is what golf—and life—is all about.”

It hasn’t always been an easy road. Doug once struggled with self-doubt, unsure if he had the confidence to play professionally. But through his faith and maturity, he found a new sense of peace and purpose. “As I matured as a Christian, I saw God working in my life, renewing my mind and bringing the right people and resources together.” That perspective fuels his approach to teaching today—meeting every student with patience, encouragement, and the belief that they already have what they need to succeed.

Beyond the greens, Doug has given back generously to the community—coaching at local schools, volunteering with the Boys & Girls Club, First Tee, and Military Golf Day. He’s been a resident of Hilton Head Island since 1977, a devoted husband of 38 years, and a proud dad and “Papa” who loves playing golf with his son and spending time outdoors with family. Whether you’re a beginner holding a club for the first time or a seasoned player chasing precision, Doug Weaver offers more than instruction—he offers inspiration.
