He later served as the lead prosecutor in Colleton County during a time of heightened criminal activity, building a reputation for diligence, preparation, and effectiveness in the courtroom. This early experience laid a strong foundation for his ability to navigate complex legal matters and advocate confidently on behalf of his clients.

In 2014, Shelton transitioned into private practice, expanding his focus to civil litigation.
